Millet Processing Unit, Dharwad

SKDRDP has established an elite Millet processing unit and a Bakery Unit in 2016 at Dharwad. Over the years unit has been upgraded to fully equipped machinery to process raw millet grains and to bake millet based value added products with 100% quality control team.

SKDRDP JVTI Millet Processing Unit has been established to Modernize and transform the Millet processing practice globally through value creation to meet the nutritional requirements and prosperity of the country through Millets.

Farmers Producer Company
Farmers Producer Company is company formed by the farmers for their own betterment.
SKDRDP has identified Koppala, Savdatti, Shiggaov, Hosadurga, Davanagere, KR Pete and Chikkanayakanahalli blocks of Karnataka wherein most of the farmers grow millets for their livelihood. Among them it has educated 400 farmers in each block to adopt organic farming. As a part of extension program trainings, demonstrations and exposure visits are conducted to promote the method. Organic units viz., compost, vermin unit, bio digesters, bio gas, organic urea units etc which are installed at the farmers plot. A Bangalore based organic certification company- Aditi has supported SKDRDP to go for organic certification.
NABARD has pinned hands associated with SKDRDP to popularize millets cultivation under FPC program without any major publicity, The FPC program helps farmers to counter backward and forward linkage problem faced by farmers. With this vision, 3 FPC program has been successfully implemented in 3 taluks namely:
  • Koppala Siri Farmers Producer Company Limited
  • Chikkanayakanahalli Siri Farmers Producer Company Limited
  • DavanagereNegilasiri Farmers Producer Company Limited
Today each company has thousand farmers growing organic millets in land that did not witness any kind of cultivation due to lack of expertise in Millet cultivation.
The Farmers Producer Companies are the backbone for the supply of raw grains to this Unit.

Activities at SKDRDP

  1. Agriculture Programs
The agriculture and aligned programs are geared towards farmers throughout Karnataka. SKRDRP has formed committee to implement this which focuses on the aspects of knowledge & capacity building, financial support & Social development.
  1. Community Development Programmes
The SKDRDP participates in various community based programs by joining hands with Central and State Govt of India. SKDRDP has implemented various program like Namma Uru Namma Kere, Customer hire service centre, Jana Jagruthi, Green energy, Shuddha Ganga etc in various parts of the state with support of the local bodies to implement these activities successfully.

SKDRDP focuses on empowering the women not only throughout financial aid. But empowering them through conducting Jnanavikasa programs to improve their social beings in the society

“Sampoorna Suraksha” is a welfare scheme that provides financial assistance to the poor during the time of illness that covers the medical expenditure.

SKDRDP brings banks closer to rural community through Business Correspondence and Business Facilitator by providing microfinance activities that stabilizes the ground for poverty alleviation

  1. To enroll thousand farmers as shareholders of the company and to promote millet cultivation practices among them.
  2. To provide technical information and educate the farmers about technology to member farmers to improve millet cultivation.
  3. To provide financial support to member farmers thereby empowering them socially and economically.

  4. To provide agro based services to member farmers for better agricultural production.
  5. To provide training and exposure visits to member farmers for educating millet cultivation and assist them for a better yield.
  6. To promote Organic farming among the member farmers and assist them to implement their skills.
